EMPOWERING CHANGE:

Mobilizing Support for the ISD Special Education Bond

The Ask

ISD Special Education Bond:

Using Video Storytelling to Build Social Media Communities & Support Their Cause

A prominent Intermediate School District (ISD) needed to pass a special education bond to upgrade, update and expand their facilities. They were serving a lot more students than they were when the original facilities were built. With not enough room in classrooms, large equipment the students needed, like walkers and motorized wheelchairs, lined the walls of their school building. Bathrooms built in the 60s couldn’t accommodate modern special needs equipment. There were a lot of needs that the ISD wasn’t able to meet with their current facilities and the bond would provide funds to meet those needs.

The Challenge // Passing a Critical Special Education Facilities Bond
  • Pass a Special Education Facilities Improvement Bond
  • Build social media channels from scratch
  • Create community engagement and support in a limited timeframe

The ISD approached Hudson Collective with a critical mission, to pass their Special Education Facilities Improvement Bond. The primary obstacle was the absence of any existing social media presence, necessitating the creation and growth of these channels from the ground up. This task was further complicated by a tight timeline, requiring rapid digital community building and effective persuasion. With the election less than two months away, a quick turnaround was imperative.

The Solution

Social Media, Video Storytelling, and Community Engagement

Hudson Collective team members addressed these needs through the following strategies: Social Media & Digital Campaign: Hudson Collective created and branded Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter channels specifically for the bond campaign, developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy to maximize impact. We also augmented organic efforts with boosted posts and paid social advertising, effectively broadening our audience and increasing campaign visibility. Video Storytelling for Special Education: Hudson Collective leveraged Hudson Media Productions to swiftly create video content, conducting interviews with 10 parents and one student in a single day. We produced 21 videos that highlighted the urgent needs for facility improvements, showcasing personal stories to foster emotional connections and drive engagement. Multi-Platform Paid and Organic Distribution: Hudson Collective shared videos across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter to drive traffic to the ISD’s website. We created a targeted social media ad campaign and boosted video posts on Meta platforms to maximize reach and engagement.

Testimonial

“The ISD Special Education Bond campaign was a prime example of how strategic storytelling and digital community building can drive real-world change. When they approached us, they had a compelling cause but no digital presence. We knew we had to act fast and smart.

Our team’s ability to rapidly develop a multi-faceted digital strategy showcases what Hudson Collective does best – we don’t just create content, we create connections. By focusing on authentic, emotionally resonating video stories, we were able to put faces and experiences to the abstract idea of a ‘bond issue.’ This human-centric approach allowed us to cut through the noise and really connect with voters.

What I’m most proud of is how we managed to build a community from the ground up in such a short time. Starting from zero followers to achieving over 2 million impressions is no small feat. It demonstrates the power of combining the right message with the right medium and strategy.

The campaign’s success – a 70% yes vote – is more than just a win for our agency. It’s a win for the students, parents, and educators who will benefit from improved special education facilities. It reinforces our belief that when we use our digital marketing skills for meaningful causes, we can make a real difference in our communities. This campaign exemplifies what we strive for at Hudson Collective: impactful storytelling, strategic use of digital platforms, and results that matter. It’s not just about metrics and impressions; it’s about moving people to action and creating positive change. That’s the kind of work that gets us excited every day.”
