Find Your Stride! How to Beat Managerial Burnout

Balancing the demands of leadership while maintaining personal well-being is no small feat. As a CEO and parent, I know firsthand how burnout can creep in when we try to do it all.

To gain more insights, I spoke with Jessie Deopp, a virtual assistant and founder of jessiedeopp.com, who knows a thing or two about finding your stride without burning out. Jessie shared five practical ways to stay on top of responsibilities while maintaining balance and avoiding exhaustion.

Finding your stride without burning out starts with these actionable strategies:

1. Communicate with Clarity and Purpose

Effective communication is key to reducing stress and fostering a supportive work environment. Being clear about expectations and keeping an open dialogue with your team prevents misunderstandings and builds trust.

Jessie emphasizes, “Clarity is kindness. When you communicate your needs effectively, you create a work environment where everyone feels empowered to contribute their best.”

Whether it’s delegating a project or setting boundaries, clear communication is the foundation of effective leadership.

2. Establish Healthy Boundaries

One of the most powerful tools against burnout is setting and maintaining boundaries. Clearly define work hours, prioritize personal time, and avoid the temptation to overcommit.

“Boundaries aren’t barriers; they are the framework that allows you to work smarter and live better,” says Jessie. “Without them, you’ll find yourself constantly pulled in every direction.”

Knowing when to say no and protecting your time is essential to maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

3. Delegate and Empower

Avoid burnout by delegating tasks strategically, allowing you to focus on high-priority responsibilities while empowering your team to take ownership of their work.

Jessie advises that delegating tasks efficiently builds trust within your team and creates a healthier, more efficient work dynamic. By strategically delegating tasks that can be done by others, you can focus on those that require your specific attention.

4. Make Self-Care a Priority

Taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Whether it’s regular exercise, mindfulness practices, or simply taking breaks throughout the day, self-care helps you maintain mental and physical well-being.

“You can’t lead effectively if you’re running on empty,” Jessie reminds us. “Make self-care an essential part of your schedule, not an afterthought.”

Prioritizing your health enables you to lead with clarity and confidence.

5. Stay Flexible and Adaptable

Rigidity can exacerbate burnout, especially when things don’t go according to plan. Embracing flexibility allows you to navigate challenges with a positive mindset and pivot when necessary.

“Adaptability is your superpower as a leader,” says Jessie. “When you stay open to change, you create opportunities rather than obstacles.” Flexibility helps you maintain momentum without unnecessary stress.

Success isn’t about doing everything—it’s about doing the right things well and knowing when to step back. Take the time to assess where you can make small but meaningful changes in your daily routine. Finding your stride isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress.

By making intentional choices, you can lead with confidence, energy, and a renewed sense of purpose. Ready to take the first step? Start by identifying one area where you can create more balance today.
